Our amazing volunteers bring the Safe Families movement to life in the community, guided by a devoted staff pouring their hearts into supporting isolated families, training and vetting volunteers, and partnering with local agencies to help keep families together!

Our Volunteers

We are fueled by an incredible army of dedicated volunteers, and happily welcome you to join our team! Volunteers serve a variety of roles from hosting children for a temporary period of time to providing services such as transportation, parent mentoring, respite care, and supplying tangible items such as diapers, car seats, and meals.

Grace Lozoya

Chapter Director

Grace serves as a Family Coach Supervisor, bringing clarity, compassion, and a steady presence to families navigating challenging seasons. She is passionate about walking with parents through transitions, offering both practical support and a listening ear. Grace believes deeply in showing up with heart, humor, and honesty—helping families feel seen, supported, and strengthened.

Outside of work, Grace enjoys time with her one-year-old, staying active, and curling up with a good book. Her blend of warmth, wisdom, and genuine care makes her a gift to every family and volunteer she serves.

Sherry Koehn

Community & Church Engagement Coordinator

Sherry serves as the Community & Church Engagement Coordinator for Safe Families for Children – Wichita, a role she has held since 2022. Sherry works alongside the Wichita team to advance the mission of keeping children safe during family crises and strengthening parents through the power of relational support.

Before joining Safe Families, Sherry spent more than 25 years in church and community ministry. She has served as a Small Group Coordinator, Women’s Ministries Lead, and Community Bible Study Leader at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore, CA. She also worked with Kings Gospel Mission, a ministry dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness in California’s Central Valley. Sherry attended Friends University and brings a deep well of ministry experience to her work.

Sherry has a passion for connecting with people and helping them discover how God has uniquely gifted them to serve others. Her heart for encouragement and her relational gifts make her a natural bridge between churches, volunteers, and families in need.

In her free time, Sherry enjoys walks, listening to 70s rock, spending time with her adult children, and gathering with family and friends. One of her favorite verses is Philippians 1:6:
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Kara Buckley

Family Coach Supervisor

Kara joins Safe Families as our new Family Coach Supervisor, bringing a heart for serving others and strengthening communities through meaningful connection and support. She is passionate about walking alongside families in vulnerable seasons and equipping volunteers to provide compassionate, relational care.

Kara values collaboration, intentional relationships, and practical solutions that help families thrive and move toward stability. She is drawn to mission-driven work that creates lasting impact — where dignity, hope, and community come together to make a difference.

We are so grateful to have Kara on the Wichita team and look forward to the ways she will help keep children safe and families together.
